Artist Biography

SUSAN JEAN

Born in Arizona and raised in a small town called Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. I graduated college at the Univ. of Wis. Madison, with a Bachelors degree in Textile Design. Following college graduation I packed my car and moved myself to the west coast to pursue my art career at the age of 21. I was hired with a fabric co. an as in-house artist in Los Angeles, Ca.Being the impatient artistic soul that I am I climbed the ladder in the clothing industry quickly and made my way to “Art Director” of Tomboy clothing company. This took me on business trips to textile mills in N. Carolina and Boston.

I fell in love in Logan International Airport on my second business trip. Next thing I knew I was married and having babies in Juneau, Alaska. We spentĀ fourteen years in Alaska (Brian, Chelsea and Sommer and myself). The Native Culture opened my artistic desires and I picked up the skill of framing and began oil painting. The children were growing fast and we decided to move closer to family. Now here we live in Colorado. My oldest baby is now a Junior at CSU and my youngest in 8th grade.

I keep very busy with my framing job, my daughter and her dance classes, husband and my passion, painting. I also teach private oil painting classes. I have participated in a handful of art shows, Parker Arts in the Park, Mile High Coffee, The Treehouse, my own show at a clubhouse in Centennial, and more. . . My strengths as an oil painter are my color sense and my ability to capture emotion. What inspires me most is truth and natural beauty.
